LÏK takes its name from lik — a face, an image, a countenance. But whose face? Someone you’ve seen a thousand times but can’t place? A half-remembered dream? A symbol of something bigger, or just another shape along the road? LÏK leaves the answer open — and the music follows that same sense of mystery, exploring lo-fi post-punk, new wave and experimental sounds, drawing from both old-school rawness and the twisted edges of modern post-punk and new wave.
Rather than pointing to a long list of bands, LÏK’s sound is heavily shaped by his involvement in bands from his hometown, including Земста and Face Age, as well as projects by the same people such as Hootz, Comuters and Vostok Setras. The way they came together to make music, constantly discovering new bands and sharing them with each other, pushed them to create something fresh and different without losing that raw, primitive edge.
For LÏK, the recording itself is only one part of the equation. What really matters is the message, delivery, atmosphere and an interesting construction. A rough, imperfect recording with character will always beat something polished to death and stripped of all its guts.
